About Me

I am Samet Ahmet Şahin, a Computer Engineering student at Kocaeli University, and a freelance Turkish translator specializing in games.
I'm currently doing sysadmin / systems work in general and I'm currently planning to become a DevOps Engineer.

My work for school

I work for Kocaeli University and do work regarding systems in general.

Here's a summary of what I have done so far:

- The set-up, administration and maintenance of a GitLab instance on Ubuntu Linux for the school's Student Information System's (SIS) development.
- The figuring out of how to communicate with an RFID card reader and the development of a client software complete with a background daemon and a GUI for altering the database, for RFID card authorization for doors, using .Net Framework and C#
- The development of a Linux virtual machine image to allow students to easily program the Texas Tiva-C Board for the Systems Programming class.
- Troubleshooting the SIS version migration on Windows servers.

Personal work

I love developing games. I've developed several in-house games usually for testing or reimplementing mechanics for fun.
I mostly use open source software. I use OpenSUSE Linux as my daily driver OS with KDE, Godot for game development, Krita for image editing, Visual Studio Code for code editing, and so on.
I prefer KVM/QEMU for virtualization, although it is not an enterprise solution. I am willing to work with enterprise solutions when I get the chance to do so.

For DevOps purposes:

For IaC, I currently experiment with Terraform and Ansible but my toolkit might change in the future depending on my needs.
For CI/CD, I use GitLab.
For Deployment, I use Docker. I'm planning to get into Kubernetes.
